1890 Chemical Cart
The
Hunter Fire Department used this apparatus in 1890 until 1910. This is
a hand-drawn Chemical Cart with twin tanks. Each tank has a capacity of
20 gallons that contained water, soda and a small container of acid.
When the soda and acid combined, these ingredients mixed to produce
enough gas to expel the water through the hose so it could be directed
toward a fire.
This unit was refurbished by the Enid Fire Department in the early 1970s and is currently displayed in the Great Hall of the Oklahoma Firefighter's Museum.
