OSFA Grants
The OSFA strives to improve the benefits and services that are available to the Firefighters and Fire Departments of Oklahoma.
One method in which we help to reach this objective is by actively seeking funding sources that will help to reduce costs for activities the Oklahoma Fire Service must employ in order to fulfill the mission of Saving Lives and Protecting Property.
A. SAFER 2008 is designed to specifically provide on-site, recruitment support to volunteer and combination Fire Departments that are West of I-35 in the State of Oklahoma. The Marketing plan is to implement billboards, radio and local newspaper ads in order to increase the public's awareness for the need for volunteer firefighters!
The overlying theme is for folks to become: "Extreme Volunteers". Certainly, volunteering as a firefighter would qualify someone to be able to refer to themselves as an Extreme Volunteer!
B. The SAFE Oklahoma Smoke Alarm Campaign was an FP&S 2008 grant that funded a smoke detector installation project. The OFCA, OSFA and OSU-FPP joined forces to install smoke detectors and deliver educational information to residents in three (3) Oklahoma Counties. This program continues using volunteers from the various Fire Departments in the area, although the grant Period of Performance has ended. These counties were selected based upon many demographics. However, the expected outcome is to realize a reduced number of fire-related injuries and death in these areas.
UPDATE: We have had four
(4) recorded "saves" in this project to date. Three different
resident's lives have been spared the calamity of fire because of the
alarms installed and the education they had received through this
project!
