OSFA Current Grants
The OSFA strives to improve the benefits and services that are available to the Firefighters and Fire Departments of Oklahoma.
One method in which we help to reach this objective is by actively seeking funding sources that will help to reduce costs for activities the Oklahoma Fire Service must employ in order to fulfill the mission of Saving Lives and Protecting Property.
A. Included in this effort is the 2005 SAFER Grant that was awarded to the OSFA for the Recruitment and Retention Activity. 2010 is the LAST year of this grant ending on Monday, December 6th.
Three (3) projects are currently working.
1. Marketing Project
2. Training Reimbursement Project
3. Wellness (firefighter physical) Project
Active Volunteer Firefighters may use the internet to apply towards
the SAFER Reimbursement for Training Expenses! The OSFA SAFER Grant
page is listed at the top of the menu on the right of this article. There you will see the option to fill out and
submit your application online. Your information is then emailed back
to the OSFA office where it is duly recorded. Active, volunteer firefighters who are selected to participate will be notified accordingly.
B. SAFER 2008 is designed to provide on-site, recruitment support to volunteer and combination Fire Departments that are West of I-35. The Marketing plan is to implement billboards and local newspapers in order to increase public awareness of the need for volunteer firefighters!
The overlying theme is for folks to become: "Extreme Volunteers".
Certainly, volunteering as a firefighter qualifies one to refer to themselves as an Extreme Volunteer!
C. The FP&S 2008 grant is funding a smoke detector project in which the OSFA, OFCA and OSU-FPP have joined forces to install smoke detectors and deliver educational information to the residents of three (3) Oklahoma Counties. These counties were selected based upon many demographics. However, the expected outcome is to realize a reduced number of fire-related injuries and death in these areas.
