COFT Project
COFT "Five Levels of Firefighter" Project Details:
The Oklahoma Council on Firefighter Training (COFT) has a pilot project in place that is currently being used by several Fire Departments. Jon Hansen, Executive Director has reported that both Combination and Volunteer Fire Departments have chosen to work on this project as it applies to their unique situation.

Fire Departments in each part of the State can use the system that helps to identify the many roles that are a part of firefighting. The concept involved is to assign the roles to a certain "level" of experience and training that could be expected in the "real world" that Oklahoma Fire Departments must deal with daily regarding manning levels and response.
"SUPPORT
to MASTER Firefighter"
Beginning with an entry level assignment identified as a "Support Firefighter" and finishing with "Master Firefighter" different levels of training and certification are recognized. The Fire Chief has the flexibility of determining some of the Elective Training that would compliment the types of calls the Fire Department typically answers during the course of the year.
One of the first presentations took place at the Fire Service Instructors of Oklahoma (FSIO) Conference in Stillwater in 2010. Seeing the excitement many of the Fire Service Instructors expressed, Director Hansen is confident this project will show its worth to the Fire Service of Oklahoma due to its ability to be applied in the many, varied settings found throughout the State.
This being a pilot
project, your feedback would be appreciated.
